Enjoying Christmas at our house -- 2010
Christmas 2010......
Enjoyed starting the day with lightly falling snow.....
...enjoyed watching the dogs opening their gifts.....
...enjoyed the presents sent by grandparents....
And enjoying the gifts from family.....
....and enjoying the love of family......
Enjoying visit from daughter and son-in-law.....
....enjoying the thoughtfulness and creativity of beautiful handmade gifts (complements of Morgan!)......
....enjoying a "handing down" of a well-loved doll to its new "mommy".....
.....and enjoying more grandparent gifts.....
....followed by more family visits from husband's sister and brother-in-law in the afternoon, phone calls from grandparents, calls to daughter in Texas, and a generally restful day....
Hope you enjoyed your Christmas day too......
(And now it's starting to snow here on the 26th -- how much will we get?)

Unexpected Thanksgiving treat!
Yesterday, Nelson, Mackenzie and I went to Harrisburg, PA to spend Thanksgiving Day with my daughter-in-law's family. They live within 20 minutes of Hershey Park and during the day, we were talking about the park, the chocolate factory, and all of the interesting things in Hershey. Mackenzie mentioned she'd never seen Hershey, so our hosts checked on-line and found out that the Chocolate World tours were open last evening. So after dinner, we took an impromptu trip over to Hershey's Chocolate World, did the tour, and then explored the gift stores and displays in the huge atrium area. I used my cell phone to take these pictures, so they're not the greatest shots in the world, but here they are anyway!!
They had this large, lovely tree right inside the front door....

And then -- look at this beautiful Christmas Cottage they had on display --

Now look again, more closely. You'll see that every single part of this house (which is as large as the storage shed in my back yard) is made of CANDY!! Wow!!
The roof is made of Cookies And Creme chocolate bars, and the spaces in between are individual Kit Kat bars! The decorative edges are large and small York Peppermint Patties and the red trim pieces are Twizzlers!

The design over the front door was created from wrapped and unwrapped Hershey Kisses.

Along the roof ridges, you can see Hershey Kisses that weigh almost 3 pounds each!

The front door design was created from red Twizzlers and the door wreath was made from holiday-wrapped Hershey Kisses!

The sidewalk was made from chocolate pieces and the door mat was a FIVE POUND Hershey bar!

The fence railings on the porch were covered with Ice Breakers Frost, wrapped with Twizzlers "ribbon" and the garland was made of more Hershey Kisses! The porch itself was made from white-chocolate-covered Kit Kat bars!

Each railing post was topped with another large Hershey Kiss. The stained glass windows were made of a sugary mix; the colored portions were Jolly Ranchers melted into it!

The snowman was covered with the Ice Breakers Frost; his hat was made from mini-Twizzlers; his scarf was long braided ropes of various flavors of Twizzler strings; his eyes were York Peppermint Pattys and his buttons were made of dark chocolate Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Even his "carrot" nose was made from orange Twizzler strings!

This isn't the greatest picture in the world, but this was the information poster that shows the details of types of candy used on this cottage.

For a confirmed chocoholic like me, what a treat this was!!

Happy Mother's Day!
First off, to all my friends, family members and clients who are mothers -- HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY (a day late, but oh well!!!) I hope you had a wonderful, relaxing day.
My day was peaceful and laid back -- just what I needed. My hubby and two of my daughters made me a nice breakfast of french toast, sausage, cinnamon rolls, milk and orange juice. Why it takes three people an hour to put together a meal I could probably do in 10 minutes is a bit of a mystery!! I understand that after watching the "kitchen confusion" for a while, my 11 year old stepped in and assigned tasks to everyone, while taking over the cooking duty herself!! Good for you, Mackenzie!!
While driving to church, Mackenzie and I made a phone call to my mom in Florida to wish her a Happy Mother's Day, too. Wish I could've gone to Florida to see her for the day -- maybe next year?
After arriving at church, I got a nice unexpected call from my other daughter. It was good talking with her, although it was brief, since church was going to start in just a few minutes.
When church ended, Nelson needed to stay a bit late and take care of some things, so Mackenzie and I just ran through Wendy's and got a bit of food to share. Neither of us was terribly hungry, but it would be quite a while until dinner!
We came home and just lounged around for a few hours -- I even got to take a short nap! What a luxury!! Around 4 pm, we met Nelson and Sarah at a movie theater, and all six of us went to watch "How To Train Your Dragon"! What a fabulous movie! (To see one review website, click here.)
Nelson and Mackenzie had gone to see this a while back while on a daddy/daughter date. They came home raving about it, and Mackenzie has been saying for weeks that she wanted to take me to it. So when everyone asked what we should do for Mother's Day, I thought this would be a great way to spend the day with the family. And I'm really glad we did! This is one of those films that I'm looking forward to being able to buy when it comes out on DVD. We'll probably watch it many times -- though I'm wondering if having seen it in 3-D in the theater will make the flat screen show a bit less interesting!
And after the movie, my son treated us all to a FEAST at Boston Market! Yummy!! One of my favorite places to eat out!
So -- a relaxing day, fun times with family, a great meal and GOOD LEFTOVERS!! What more could I ask for??
